REDUCE & REFORM

REGULATIONS

STOP GOVERNMENT OVERREACH

In order to limit the growth of the federal government, the drafters of the Constitution made it clear that the powers of the federal government are to be limited to those specifically named in the Constitution. It reserves to the states, and the people thereof, all powers not specifically delegated to the federal government. I believe the state legislature must push back against an overreaching federal government. Furthermore, I strongly believe the states must defend and preserve the powers intended for the states. I will work hard to keep the federal government from amassing power in Washington and to restore the powers that belong to the states.

PROTECTING  OUR  CONSTITUTIONAL  RIGHTS

I fully support the 2nd Amendment and our right to bear arms. I believe gun ownership is a fundamental right that pre-dates the U.S. Constitution, but that the founders specifically provided for in the Second Amendment.

PROTECTING LIFE AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

I support life and religious freedom!  I will fight every day for life from conception to natural death.  My commitment to this critical issue was recognized in the form of an endorsement by the Missouri Right to Life in 2014.  I support religious liberty for all Americans.  Following the US Supreme Court’s activist decision forcing same-sex marriage on every State despite the fact that many State Constitutions like Missouri recognizes a marriage is between and man and woman.  In addition, I will support any effort (i.e., Religious Liberty Amendment) to put the question before Missouri voters to amend the State Constitution to say specifically that religious organizations currently vulnerable; including churches, pastors, religious people and small businesses shall not be penalized for refusing to participate in solemnizing same sex marriages in direct violation of their deeply held religious convictions.  Furthermore, no individual with deeply held religious convictions be forced by government to participate in same-sex weddings as vendors if it violates their sincere religious beliefs.  I will only support Religious Liberty amendments that act as a shield and not a sword.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & JOBS

Our state economy is ranked near the bottom. Businesses, large and small, are stifled by unnecessary red tape, excessive regulations, high taxes, and unfriendly judicial system. Free enterprise has been squeezed by a massive government. While I believe government does NOT create jobs, I believe government can create the conditions for a free market system to thrive and grow with limited government oversight, often by simply getting out of the way. I will support measures to make it easier for all businesses to be successful in Missouri and create new jobs for all. It’s time for this generation to reclaim the American Dream by getting government out of the way.

  • I believe jobs and lots of them is a critical part of our society

  • I believe government does NOT create jobs, private companies and individuals create jobs

  • I believe our government should take every step to create a fair playing field for all companies big or small to conduct commerce with minimal government regulation and interference

  • Government should NOT be in the business of picking winners and losers

CUTTING WASTE IN GOVERNMENT

I will produce an annual report highlighting state government waste. I believe it is our duty as elected officials to identify and investigate tax dollars being wasted on redundant programs, unnecessary government studies, obsolete programs, abuse and corruption. I will always protect the tax dollars of hard-working Missourians.

EDUCATIONAL FREEDOM

I believe greater government intervention from both the federal and state governments has lowered standards and have not improved the educational system. I firmly believe local governments, parents and teachers are better equipped to meet the needs of their students than the federal or state government. Local control is necessary to put parents back in charge of their children’s education.

  • I oppose Common Core and believe that control of schools should be at the local level

  • I believe a quality education for our children should NOT be based on where you live!

  • I support new and creative ideas for allowing charter schools and school vouchers

  • I support the latest student transfer bill passed by the state legislature but vetoed by the Governor. I do not support busing kids to other districts far away from their home as it doesn’t solve the underlying problem of why that school is failing and creates an additional financial burden for the existing school and the other schools accepting transfer students

  • I would support measures to eliminate or significantly limit the power and control of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (i.e., DESE) over local school districts

IMPROVING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE WITH OUT NEW TAXES

Missouri's infrastructure; roads, water systems, sewers, communications and power/electrical desperately need improvements.  In general, I do not support increasing taxes to make those required improvements.  I believe we need to be more efficient in how we spend the current state budget.  State government departments, agencies, and political subdivisions can do a better job of managing the resources they currently have. Our state and local communities have followed the old way of "tax and spend" policy versus adequately saving money for the capital improvements that we now face.  I support efforts to cut expenses in other non-essential areas and to start a fund in the state budget for capital improvements to critical state infrastructure.  Missouri should also consider other sources of non tax increase revenue like increasing user fees (i.e., auto registration and licensing).  Bottom line, we must reduce expenses within the current state budget and then re-allocate those savings towards key infrastructure projects.

IMPROVING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE WITH OUT NEW TAXES

REDUCE & REFORM REGULATIONS

Regulation and red tape increases costs to Missouri businesses. My goal is to help Missouri business owners thrive so they can provide for their families. I will make sure that the Missouri legislature is slashing regulations that are a burden to business owners. It is time to put Missourians first, and this is one way I plan on accomplishing that goal.
