RESTORING OUR VALUES
I believe American values are founded in these words from the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” While there are no guarantees of success in life, I believe our founders wanted all citizens to have an equal opportunity to pursue their dreams. It is my belief that we must protect the idea of the sovereign individual’s right to pursue his own dream, through personal responsibility, hard work and the entrepreneurial spirit. It is this special freedom that has made America the greatest country in the world, and the greatest Republic in the history of mankind. I will work hard to restore our values so that our children can inherit a better state and country.
DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION
I believe activist-judges have undermined the Constitution for many years. The Founders wrote the Constitution to specifically limit the power of the federal government, not its people. In fact, one of the greatest fears from many of the founders was that a central government would become so powerful that it would overrun the rights of the individual. As a compromise to the Federalists, the founders adopted a Bill of Rights to guarantee that individual liberty was protected. Most importantly, the founders were very clear that our rights do not come from government but from God.
I believe government programs create dependency and significantly reduces the motivation of individuals to work. Many families have become dependent on the government and it traps most of them into generational poverty and despair. Today there are too many takers who live on the taxpayer dime through public benefits and government giveaways. Many individuals find it more financially beneficial to not work and accept government welfare with no time limit to those benefits. While I believe society should help those who are in need, it should be a “hand up and not a hand out.” I will support legislation that promotes personal responsibility because I understand that dignity comes from an honest day’s work.
